One night I had a dream…Mother Theresa was standing in front of a dark path and she just looked at me, almost studying me. I knew that I had a decision to make as to whether or not I wanted to take a journey alone on a road never before traveled, or remain where I was standing…on the same road, leading to the same results. Since the path was dark, I couldn’t see where it would lead me, but I knew that if she was standing at the entrance, then I would not be alone. I chose to walk the path that would lead me down the unknown, and I knew I would be led by faith, and although I would be walking this journey alone, I felt comfort in the knowing that I was not alone. On this journey, I learned to discover my fears, my passions, and my ability to discern truth from fear. Although I still believe I am on the road, I have learned to tune out the chaos of the world around me and tune into the sound of my own inner voice and the voice of God. Suddenly I realized that I had allowed the sounds of chaos to replace the sounds of silence, which led me to the path of self-discovery and self-fulfillment. When you learn to stand alone, you realize the truth in your ability to honor yourself and discover your path to joy. Creating your life is about living with intent and the realization that you control so much of the direction your path will lead. What an empowering truth to realize that through controlling your own thoughts, emotions, and actions, you have the ability to design your life in accordance to what you truly want to experience. But the foundation of dreams are built on the details of how you construct your goals and the necessary steps you take in order to achieve them. Knowing this, how is it that we can still go through the motions of constructing our own goals without taking the time for the details that will make our dreams sparkle. These details are in the form of timing, foresight and weaving our own unique gifts into the tapestry of our dreams.

In order to incorporate the details in your goals, write down precisely how you want this goal to appear in your life and what it will feel like once you attain it. How soon do you plan on achieving it? Do you have a specific timeline you are working towards, or are you just hoping someday this will happen? How will your life change once you manifested your dream? Where will you live, and what will you do with your time, and most importantly...how will you make your life and the life of another person better through the creation of this dream? If it is something you love, then chances are somebody else will become inspired just by watching you achieve it.

The beauty of any creation whether it is a dream in the making or a garment in the making, is about the details and the more detailed you can be, the more in control you will be of designing your goal and accomplishing it to the most specific detail. Take the time and enjoy the process to form it exactly as you would enjoy it, and watch the miracle being formed before your very eyes!

One of my earliest childhood memories was being told that I was a dreamer and I needed to pull my head out of the clouds. After all, very few people travel through their journey in life to become what they have always wanted to be...right? Well, I believe that the moment we lose sight of our dreams is the very moment when a part of our spirit dies with that particular dream. My belief, is that God gave us these moments in life to experience our greatest dreams and allow our souls to magnify our light to shine on those things that bring us joy. If your dream is to be the greatest athlete, then don't allow anyone else's fear to silence your dream. If you have always desired to be a poet, then write your story word for word and allow your light to grow with each creative verse. Give yourself permission to look within your own soul and discover what you yearned for when you looked into the mirror as a little girl, and said, "when I grow up, I want to be..."

Throughout life we are subjected to so many impressions on a daily basis. Impressions include advertising billboards, television, newspapers, friends, family, and so many other sources from where we tend to build our own values and belief systems. With all of these impressions, it is not at all surprising to see why we tend to lose our own thoughts and inner voice in the chaos of the outside world. When the time comes when we have to make decisions about our own paths and goals, the loudest voice tends to win, whether the voice is coming from a place of love or fear and truth or illusion.

When you choose to create your life from anything that isn't resonating within your own soul and speaks to your own truth, you can become connected to the illusions and in turn create more fear and chaos in your life. How do you tune out the world without to listen to the voice within?

Take alone time - meditate, write, do something that you love that connects you to your own soul.
Challenge your thoughts and identify what you are creating from truth or illusion (fear)
Surround yourself with positive people who have accomplished the goals you wish to attain.
Connect yourself to something greater - pray and realize there is a power higher than yourself that is trying to assist you in the process of becoming your own personal best.
Create affirmations - put them on post-it notes, index cards, and paste them to your mirror so you see your affirmations daily.
Believe in yourself and never allow another person to make you doubt your own greatness.
Don't ever own another person's fear - what they were not able to accomplish is their own baggage, not yours.
Be in an attitude of gratitude and appreciate every blessing you receive and you will find more to be grateful for.
Write it out! - Make a list of your goals and dreams and check them off one by one as you attain them.

Learning to stand again

As children, one of the first things we learn to do is to pick ourselves up when we fall. Watching a child take their first steps and fall down is something we should never take for granted. Their smiles and joys of taking their first steps far outweigh their fear of falling down and having to pick themselves up again to learn to move forward. How is it that as we become adults, the joy of falling and picking ourselves up again becomes replaced with the fear of falling in general? Why should we be afraid to take the necessary steps to move forward in our journey through life in fear that we will fall in the process?

I cannot count the number of times I have run into a dream "barrier" because I was too afraid that I would fall, and the fear of not attaining the dream outweighed the possible joy of receiving it. Learning to move forward along a new road allows for us to move one more step towards the life of our dreams. After all, it is not the falling down that prevents us from achieving our goals; it is in the failing to stand up again and refusing to moving forward that does. How many goals have you left by the side of the road in fear that you would fall? Now is the time to stand up, brush the dirt from your knees and take another step in your journey towards reaching new heights.

Do you realize that when you look within your own soul to discover the power of prayer, that you have no option but to see yourself as the amazing co-creator of your life that God intended you to be? We each have discovered a moment in our lives when prayer was the only answer, and when we have nothing else to lose but to drop to our knees and ask from the last ounce of faith we possess for what we need…we can’t look any deeper into our own souls. This is where God resides within us, but in order to know God, you have to know yourself, as it is impossible to look within for answers without discovering ourselves. What do you see when you look within and discover your own soul? When you look for Source energy within yourself, you seek love and you can’t find God without finding love. So the next time you are closing your eyes in prayer, appreciate the love for self that you should possess. Self-love is the first step to empowerment, and your journey through this life is to appreciate yourself and celebrate your unique life. Self-love, self-acceptance, and self-sufficiency are 3 of the greatest gifts you can provide yourself in this lifetime. You have no idea when your journey will be complete..so relish in the miracle of you!

Why is it that we are so quick to deny ourselves the greatest dreams we envision for ourselves each and everyday? If you ask anyone who has ever achieved greatness, they will more than likely tell you the reason they are so accomplished is because they made a conscious decision to follow their dreams and when they do what they love, the money and joy naturally follows. After all, when we follow our gifts and talents, we develop a connection to ourselves and ultimately to the divine. The more you grow into your own soul and re-discover who you are and what you love, the more connected to love to become, and where love is, then you are certain to find the Source of love.

So often what happens is that we spend most of our lives living out another person’s dreams and hide our own under a veil of illusion. I believe this illusion comes in the form of fear, low self-esteem, uncertainty about our own talents, and any other form that fear often takes in our lives. What veil of illusion are you hiding under? Ask yourself what is the greatest dream you have and then ask yourself what is the greatest fear you have attached to that dream. As a coach, I speak to women each and every day who have failed to recognize their own greatness and choose to hide under a veil of illusion. We have control over our thoughts, emotions, and actions. So what you choose to create in your life through these options is truly a deliberate choice. You can choose to follow your dream or you can choose to hide under a veil of fear.

Now is the time to pull the veil from over your eyes and see yourself through the eyes of love rather than through the eyes of fear. Allow yourself to dream big and give yourself the faith that you provide to others when you encourage them. You have the ability to empower yourself by choosing to follow your dreams. Can you just imagine what you could accomplish if you follow your own course and give yourself the greatest gift you can – the gift of believing in yourself.

Do You Know Your "Why?"

When I coach my clients, one of the first questions I ask each of them is to tell me their “why?” This question is one of the most difficult for them to answer because to be able to verbally express why we are passionate about achieving a goal is often something we have not thought enough about it to dissect it and be able to comprehend our own feelings let alone express them to another person in a manner which they can understand the importance and the value of why we are seeking the experience of accomplishing that goal. What is your “why” and can you explain to another person if they asked you why you should get a certain job, why you should win a race, or compete in a pageant. In order to know your why, you have to delve deep into your own thoughts and feelings and understand the importance of an action you are taking and most importantly, know if you are taking that action in love or in fear.

Let me explain…we are all creatures of habit and many of our own thoughts, values, and opinions have been based on not only our own thoughts but the thoughts of our families, friends, and anyone who has helped mold our definition of who we want to become. Oftentimes our “why” is so difficult to explain because we don’t even know why we believe something or why we are following our path into relationships, careers, and even goals. If your reason for wanting to experience something that you are trying to obtain in your love is being created from a place of love, then be able to express to yourself, if nobody else why this certain goal or experience is important to you. If the reasons are for co-creating your life to enrich it in joy and love, then you know that which you are seeking is ultimately going to serve your higher purpose. If however, you are trying to accomplish a goal or establish a relationship out of reasons of fear, then you will in fact create more fear in your life.

Fear can mask itself in many different forms such as insecurity, manipulation, or anything that doesn’t bring joy to our lives. If you are trying to prove something to another person or even to yourself of proving your own worth then you may be seeking to experience something for the wrong reason and are using fear as a driving force in this endeavor. Just as fear can be a driving force in creation, love is just as powerful a motivator, and I believe the most powerful energy we can use to create. Love too can manifest itself in confidence, self-love, self-acceptance, and self-sufficiency, and anything that brings joy into our lives is going to provide a greater return of love and abundance of joy.

Now is the time to take a mental inventory of your goals and where you life is as opposed to where you want it to go, and ask yourself what is your motivator. If you are being driven by something fear-based, then stop the cycle and replace your goal with something that will bring you joy and love into your life. Ultimately we are all energy, and as energy we are constantly moving and creating, so if you are not being deliberate and intentional with what experiences you are choosing to create then you will continue creating by default and life is too short and too precious to take for granted. Here’s to you and the greatest “why” you will uncover.

Tonight, I realized that everything I have ever wanted to do included inspiring, encouraging, and empowering people. I truly believe this is my destiny, and although I have had so many doubts that just one voice can actually make a difference in the world, I decided to speak anyway. If one person who looks within the depths of their own soul, and reaches through the cobwebs of their own closet to discover where they hid their dreams, can unlock just one key to open the door, then maybe we each have the ability to make a difference in this world...one person at a time. I withheld this blog for so many years because I didn't believe that I had the ability to inspire others to reach for their dreams, but I am going to do it "anyway." So...what is your dream? What song is your heart longing to share that you don't believe is important? You know what? it's important to you, so do it anyway...Maybe you are the soul you are waiting to inspire, and waiting to change the course of your world through.

I love everything about this time of year because of the feelings and emotions that the holidays create. Giving becomes the focus of attention and as we prepare our Christmas Wish Lists, I have six gift wishes for you. Everything in our journey through life is about the feelings of positive or negative experiences. Knowing this, I wish for each of you several items that I believe will bring you the feeling of happiness and fulfillment:
1.The gift of Listening: Not to the voices from the world around you, but rather to the sounds of your own inner voice. Too often we allow the volume of the world to drown out the echo of our own voice and the only connection we have to ourselves and to Source energy. When you silence the world around you, the ability to listen to your own wants, needs and passions suddenly becomes the tool we need to achieve our own happiness and success.
2.The gift of Validation: Too often we seek the advice and approval of those around us rather than trusting that the things we seek to experience are our own souls wishes. How many dreams have you placed in the closet of your mind, only to collect cobwebs because another person did not provide you with their approval to attempt those dreams? You never need the permission or the approval from another person to become the individual you want to become. Be the source of your own validation, and you will uncover possibilities within yourself that you never thought were possible.
3.The gift of Vision: We each have the ability to create anything in our lives that we can imagine. The problem often lies in the limiting perceptions we place on our own dreams and ability to turn those dreams into a reality. I challenge you to develop a list of possibilities for your life and next to each of those items, write down a plan of how you will control the outcome of their creation. The steps will unfold before your own eyes because you hold the key to unlock the door to your own potential.
4.The gift of Urgency: How many instances in your life did you make a decision to put your own needs, wants, and desires on the back burner and place everyone else's ahead of you? Too often we don't value our own visions because we don't believe in them or worse yet, we don't believe in ourselves enough to achieve them. You must create a sense of urgency with your own dreams and make an action plan as if you were not going to be given another opportunity to create them. Stop taking life for granted and waiting until "tomorrow" to reach your full potential, because tomorrow doesn't exist. The only truth in your life this moment is that you have only this moment to create your life as you want to live it, so begin now.
5.The gift of Courage: It is so frightening to put your own dreams in your line of sight, because so many of our emotions and our sense of worth are connected to our dreams. Oftentimes the pain associated with not achieving what we so desperately want to create in our lives overcomes the faith in ourselves to accomplish them, that the fear outweighs the love we have for ourselves and our dreams. Courage is a necessity when you decide to create your goals!
6.The gift of Faith: There has not been one dream achieved without faith, both in yourself and in the power of something greater than yourself driving you towards that dream. Believe that whatever is in your heart to accomplish was placed there by a Source that is guiding you towards that dream. Use that same faith to know that if you dedicate yourself to the creation of that dream, you will have all of the tools necessary to achieve it. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

In fact, isn't that what we all do when we do something that we truly love? We get absorbed in the creative process and don't know where we end and Source energy begins. It's a wonderful process, so why not pick up that paint brush, the pen, or the basketball and get connected with your destiny? Your life is waiting for you to answer the call....

One of the beautiful things I have discovered in life is that our lives are a direct reflection of our thoughts. What we draw energy to, we create. So when you look at your life today - what do you see? Are you happy with your job, finances, relationships, and overall contribution? If there is any part of your life where you feel sadness or something lacking, then look within yourself and ask yourself what you can do to change the reflection of your thoughts so the world outside of yourself becomes more satisfying and filled with love.

One of my greatest dreams is to meet Oprah Winfrey and provide her something of contribution, as she has inspired my life in great lengths. One of the reasons I wrote and published my book was because I heard Oprah repeatedly say that we are responsible for our own happiness and can change the world one person at a time. Since my goal is to inspire her as well, then I need to try to inspire the world one person at a time. My "mirror" has allowed me to realize that I can create change just through my own thoughts, and in turn be able to help someone else do the same. Here's to Oprah and making dreams come true!

Open Letter to Contestants

Dear Queen's,
I have been sending out emails to some of my clients who competed in the Mrs. International Pageant last week and realized that this letter is something that if shared, may personally touch each and everyone of you who are meant to read this. I hope that it helps you realize that whether or not you achieve a pageant title, a job position, or a position on your student council, then you still have the power to reach for your dreams.

First of all, I cannot commend you enough on how beautiful you were and how well you represented yourself at the Mrs. International Pageant. As you know, this pageant represents women who are beautiful, intelligent, articulate and passionate about making a difference. You represent each and everyone of those qualities.

I truly understand your disappointment, as I have been where you were at...wondering how all of those months and years of preparation in the end did not allow me to achieve my dream. Remember that every step in your journey towards your goal helps in the process of discovering who you are, what you believe in and ultimately helps you discover that you alone have the power to create every dream you can imagine. These dreams may not happen in our timeline, but if you remain determined and focused, you will achieve the dream that you are meant to create. Those that remain within our hearts and minds are those which will stay true to us, and wait in the background until we allow them out once again at the right time.

This is the moment where you need to relax and allow yourself the privilege of being human and allow yourself to be disappointed. But whatever you do, never apologize to anyone for not acquiring the goal you wanted. There is not one soul that you have disappointed or that you owe an apology to. My role as your coach has always served to be your "mirror" and see yourself for the beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, and genuine beauty that you are. The fact that you have walked through this journey and found a place of self-discovery is one of the greatest gifts that pageantry can provide. Take that gift and allow yourself to continue seeing yourself through those eyes of truth and never lose the reason or the "why" you decided to compete in a pageant to begin with. Your "why" will serve as your greatest source of inspiration, and when the tears are dried and your heart has smiled again very soon...allow your "why" to come forward once again and see where it takes you. There are quite a few Mrs., Miss and Teen Internationals who have used their journey to inspire themselves once again an have accomplished the goal they set out to achieve and Shannon Devine and Erin Golden are just two examples of this.

So many dreams have been lost because the dreamer chose to close the door on that dream and lock it into the closet of their mind. Dreams don't fail us, we fail to follow our dreams. Now is the time to unlock the "closet door" and write your list of dreams down on a piece of paper so you can't hide them anymore. Start achieving them one by one, and see where they lead you. Ultimately if your goal is to become Mrs. International, change the world, or become a stronger advocate for your platform, then do what you need to do and see where the road takes you once again. It was not an accident that you were placed on this stage out of the millions of married women across the country, and from the millions you became one of 53 contestants who followed your inner-calling to be the voice of those who cannot speak for themselves. Listen to your own voice now and know that you are already changing the world one person at a time.

Think back on the moment that you made the deliberate decision to become a contestant and reach your pageant potential? Do you even remember the moment of when that dream became a spark in your heart and when hope and anticipation ignited the the realization that you had the innate potential to become anything you could dream of becoming? Throughout our journey into pageantry, there is always a hiccup on the road to our success. Whether it be a group of strangers not moving us forward to achieve our dream or whether it be circumstances beyond our control, we have at some point in our lives felt the sting and hunger of not achieving the success we ultimately sought to achieve. What next you ask? What happens now that the heart is broken, the tears are dry and the wonder of “what if?” floods our minds with confusion…

One of the most beautiful things about dreams and goals is that they never die and they never lose sight of being within reach. The ultimate destiny lies not in the achievement of your dream but in the process of the journey. Do you stop and dust off the dirt from your knees when you stumble or do you lie down in the sand and watch those around you discover ways of redefining and fine-tuning the best possible outcome for achieving their dreams? The world is created with many beautiful souls, all on the journey towards self-discovery and pageantry offers the largest and most clear mirror of who we are not only in the depths of competition but in the darkness when we are alone and reflecting on our stories, and our journey’s. I believe that we each make a difference one person at a time, and I think all too often we as individuals underestimate our power to change the course of a person's goals just by how we approach everyone we come into contact with on a daily basis. How many people have you been approached by throughout your journey towards pageantry, career, or goals in general who have either said or done something that has enhanced your belief in your own ability, or negated it through their words or reaction to you? The human spirit is so incredibly frail and so powerful in the same right. Because I was born an eternal optimist, my response to everyone's dreams has been "why not?" Why would you not be able to achieve that promotion? Why wouldn't you get into the school that you want, and why would you not be able to achieve the title that you are working so hard to attain?

These past few weeks has been such a blessing and a time of learning about myself, and as I work with my beautiful state and national contestants preparing them to achieve their dreams I realize that they believe in me as much as I believe in them. I have a beautiful friend who I met when we were auditioning for a modeling competition. Although she has only spent minimal time with me, we were able to grow our friendship into something I truly cherish. Several weeks ago, she called me and asked me to be a part of a Celebrity Gifting Suite at the Superbowl because she believed in me and my jewelry line so much that she wanted to help me grow my business. Her belief in me has opened so many doors of opportunity since the Superbowl that I have to ask myself if I am dreaming! Because one person believed in the power of my dreams enough, many more of my dreams are coming true!

As so many state pageants are coming upon us in just a few short weeks, it is important to ask yourself what you ultimate dream is and see the end from the beginning. There are so many people who will not understand your ultimate goal, and it is my belief that you never need to justify your dreams to another person -just realize that you have everything you need within yourself to make your own dreams come true. You don't need their permission or approval - just belief in yourself. When you're sitting in front of these judges and your hands begin to sweat, your heart begins to race, and your feet just want to run as fast as possible out of that interview room and stage - stop and ask yourself, "what is my dream?" Look out into the audience filled with the beautiful faces who all believe in you and realize that the one person looking back at you from your group of supporters, believes in you enough to be there, and the doors of opportunity are going to swing wide open. Realize that the one judge, contestant, or child in the elevator that you encounter may just be the butterfly that you will send fluttering across the world, and that you have the power to change the world - one person at a time. Here's to making all of your dreams come true!

Who Has Your "Blind Side?"

Last night I had the chance to watch the inspiring movie, "The Blind Side" for the up-teenth time, and even though I have seen this movie repeatedly it continues to move me. The fact that this was inspired by a true story is so beautiful and uplifting, but the feelings of faith that is instilled within me is overpowering. How many of us go through our entire lives wondering who has our "back" and if only for a moment we could let our gaurd down, what sense of encouragement that would provide us?

In pageantry as in life, everyone enters a competition expecting that only one person will walk away with the title yet we strive to become all that we have ever wanted to be and place our efforts, our hopes, and our dreams into that one event. In the realization that you are the only person competing against yourself, then how would you look at every beautiful set of eyes staring back at you in the judges room, in the rehearsal hall, or in the elevator? You have no idea why God placed you in that exact place in time to compete for a coveted title. If you consider that throughout your journey in pageantry, it is about camaraderie, sisterhood, and making a difference. If we played the sport of pageantry the way Michael was taught to play the game of football, then how much more could you impact the dreams and self-esteem of your sister contestant? If we all learn to have each others "blind side" throughout the competition then the positive energy you provide will send ripple effect so powerful across the universe, you would be surprised just how many lives you could touch.

So when you walk into your next competition, rather than walking past your sister competitor, stop and give her a compliment, and encouraging word, and help her to realize her true potential as well. Go into any area of your life having another persons back, and you will soon see your world transform into truly making a difference, and be the true queen that you are there to exemplify. Have your inspiration up and your guard down, and most importantly, treat everyone with the love and respect they deserve and have their "blind side," treating them as if they were your family because we are all. Here's to making your dreams come true!

I truly believe that Oprah Winfrey is one of the most inspirational people in this century. Not only did she come from a childhood that was difficult, but she refused to be a victim and allow the world to tell her who and what she was to become. Named as Fortune Magazine's "50 Most Powerful Women," Oprah Winfrey was also involved in pageantry and actually won the Miss Fire Prevention and Miss Black Tennessee titles. Although she failed to make the finals at the Miss Black America Pageant, Oprah Winfrey moved forward in her life plan to change the world and become one of the most influential people in the world! When people look back on watching her journey into pageantry, they more than likely did not see the influence that this one person would have on inspiring the world!

When I coach my pageant queen's, my goal is to help them realize that pageantry is just one step in their journey towards what they are truly meant to become. If you could look at your life from the outside looking in, you would love a little stronger, laugh a little harder, and dream a little bigger! Now is your turn to love, laugh, and dream your way into a beautiful new year that is created only for you. If you could have any dream come true....what would that dream be? Ask Oprah Winfrey in 1971, and would she have answered, "to win the Miss Black America Pageant?" or would she have answered, "My dream is to change the world."

So now I ask you? What's your dream?

Follow Your Dreams

"It all started when I was about 10 years old and I was on the beach sitting on a huge rock with my sweatshirt wrapped around my waist smiling for my Daddy's camera. I remember how I felt most of all. I felt special that my dad wanted to take my picture, I felt beautiful with the wind in my hair, and at that moment - I remember thinking - I want to be a model. Well, fast forward about 25 years later...modeling had not been a serious thought growing up as I did not grow to be tall & model thin, and I had focused my energy on getting my BA & Masters Degree, and later starting my family. Then I found myself watching ANTM and beginning to really appreciate the pure art, creativity and skill that goes into taking a fierce picture. For two years I watched those shows and used my mirror as a camera lense and my hallway as a catwalk. I always had this feeling that one day I would get to put all this practice to good use. Then one day - I met a photographer who was hoping to use me as a referral for business and he offered me a free photo shoot. Well, I hired a stylist and decided that this was my chance to live my dream of doing a high fashion type shoot. To my amazement, I was far more photogenic than I thought and actually took some of the best photos I had ever taken. I did more photo shoots with him and other local photographers and one day I came across this show, She's Got the Look. I couldn't believe it! It was ANTM but for women over age 35 like me! And, the first episode I saw had a woman on there who resembled my features - and in that moment - I felt like I could see myself there. I decided to apply for the show, even though I knew that my height was going to, at some point, be an issue. I was passionate about modeling and I felt confident that I could be good at it. After all, my beautiful pictures had nothing to do with my height. So, long story short - I made it to the Top 20 out of thousands of model hopefuls from across the country and was actually shown briefly on the first preview episode. I didn't make it nearly as far as I hoped, but I made it far enough to spark some hope that maybe there might be opportunities out there. So, I approached my "dream" with a bit of realism and reached out to local modeling agencies for representation for commercial/print/lifestyle work. To my surprise there was an agency interested and they requested a meeting. I was nervous about the meeting, for fear that they would reject me due to my height. However, within five minutes of being there, they signed me, and when I showed them a picture of my kids, they signed both of them as well. Since then, my daughter was recently a covergirl for the 2011 Beatrix NY catalogue, and our entire family was photographed in an editorial spread for Redbook Magazine due to come out in the Feb or March issue of 2011. Although, the editorial was not a high fashion type spread, it was truly an honor just to be doing it - and to be doing it with my husband and two kids made it even that much more special. I think when it comes to dreams - sometimes we may need to tweek the dreams a bit, like - I may not ever walk the runways in Milan or do high fashion editorials, but I can do lifestyle modeling on a local level. It gives me a level of accomplishment and a feeling of fulfillment knowing that I am still living my dream on some level. But - even then, life is funny - and there's always that rare opportunity that may come - so my stance is to stay hopeful and be ready. Maybe one day you will see me walk a catwalk or do a fashion editorial - you never know. Visualize your dream, start with small steps but dream big!"

When you wake up tomorrow morning, ask yourself "what would I do today if I knew I could not fail?"....then do it! Too often we awake in our normal day to day life and forget that everyday we awake is another 24 hours to make our dreams come true! Do you realize how many precious souls awake every morning thinking about the habit of work, stress, finances, and forget that their journey is about them? These same people...all of us someday...will awake for the very last time, and if we knew that it would be the last sunset we watched, the last smile on our partners face we saw or the last laughter we heard, would we run out in haste to greet our stressful day or would we encounter those loving words, smiles, and embraces with the appreciation of gratitude that they deserve?

Today... this moment... is the very chance you have to make a difference in the lives of others, but also in your own life! Cherish it - embrace it - and stop living in fear of the dreams you have tucked into the dark closet of your mind. Rather pull them out of the closet and dust them off, because it is now that you have this moment to make every dream come true! Live life in the moment and soon you will discover that you are creating miracles in your life each and every day!

The Power of Your Dream

When we moved into our new home last year, I discovered a small folded index card tucked neatly on the highest cupboard in our kitchen. As I brushed the dust off the card and opened it, I realized it was a list of the previous owners dreams. He had scribbled a list of 5 dreams or goals he had, which included family, home, vacation, and becoming an entrepreneur. At first I felt as if I shouldn't have been reading these because they were so personal to him, and then a feeling of sadness came over me because I wondered how long this man had his dreams tucked in a dark closet collecting dust.

Isn't that what we so often do with our dreams, especially in today's economic climate where we are indundated with negative words and images everywhere we look. It can be so easy to forget our dreams and leave them to collect dust as we tackle our everyday lives. I came upon this card once again yesterday when I was searching for a halloween candy bowl. This time when I found the card, I told myself that I was going to help this man make his dream come true. How? The only way I knew how...through the power of prayer. So I took his card and I prayed over it and asked that his dreams be reignited once again in his soul and that somehow they become alive once again. His dream card is the basis for my dedicating my blog to helping inspire everyone to make their dreams come true.

What is your dream? If you don't have one, then now is the time to pull your dream list out of the dark closet of your mind, gently dust it off and write out your wishes one at a time. Look at this dream list everyday and make it a tangible goal for you to realize. You came into this world to experience your perfection and the ability to create the most magical dreams and turn them into a reality so you can experience the power of creating! What brings you joy? What did you want to become when you were a child and there were no limits in your precious mind?

When I won the Mrs. International Pageant in 2006, I thought I had attained my dream until I realized that becoming a "dream coach" is what I always aspired to become. I have always loved inspiring, motivating and encouraging others and I am so blessed to get to do this everyday as a pageant coach and a personal development coach. Now I am adding to my dream, as I have written a book on how to make your dreams come true and am looking for a literary agent. Writing is something I wanted to do as a child, so I pulled out my childhood dream and wrote it down on my dream list. Being a very spiritual person, my book is written in the spiritual context of manifesting whatever our hearts desire.

Now that I have shared my dreams with you, write your dreams down and make them a reality. Life is too short and you do not want to use the words, "what if?" when you look back on your perfect life. Share them only with those who support your endevors and never allow anyone to tell you what you cannot do! As for the dream list I found in the dark cupboard...I will continue to bless it everyday in the hopes that he will soon make all of his dreams come true. I will never know or meet this person, but I was blessed that I got to be inspired by his dream list. Now go out and inspire the world as you make each of your dreams come true!

Becoming a Spokesperson

One of the benefits to winning a pageant title, is the opportunity to speak to people about the topic you are so passionate about. As a titleholder, you will have the chance to be interviewed live on television and radio shows across the country as well as doing countless media interviews with newspapers and magazines. The best way to become a well-spoken titleholder is to begin practicing now for the job you are applying for! You can never be too prepared when you are speaking to a group of 20 elementary school children, hundreds of health care providers or an audience of hundreds of thousands of people listening live to your radio interview. The most important thing to do is to begin practicing now as to how to project your voice and body language so your speech will be delivered effectively with passion.

Take advantage of every opportunity to speak in front of groups, because the more practice you get the better your speaking skills will become. You don't want your first speaking engagement to be in a room full of judges during your interview, because they will sense your nervousness and anxiety before you even open your mouth to speak. The difference between competitors who execute their interview flawlessly and those who are average, is in the way they are able to converse with the judges. Remember that communication is both verbal and non-verbal so you want to ensure that you are refining yourself as the "complete package." Record your voice so you hear exactly what the judges hear during your interview, which will allow you to hear the pitch and volume of your voice. So often we dislike hearing our own voices recorded, but you are doing a disservice to yourself if you fail to take every opportunity to increase your competitive edge. Practice, practice, practice, and you will witness firsthand your interview skills increasing and your confidence as well!

Transformation is the Key to Winning!

How often have you looked into the mirror after a pageant competition and asked yourself, “what else can I do to win?” You have tried everything imaginable, used every pageant coach in the industry, changed your gown with the insistence of every critique, and still you stand right where you were before; frustrated and confused. As a competitor in any sport, and especially in the world of pageantry, it is vital to be able to transform your unique features on a physical and emotional level into a tangible quality that will separate you from your fellow queens. My mom used to call it transforming from a cocoon into a butterfly, and there really is no better way to explain it.

If you have the ability to take constructive critique but still be able to respect your “inner voice” about where the suggestions are comfortable for you and where they are not then you will find a balance to help catapult you into the next level as a competitor. Changing pageant systems and not changing anything about your foundation of competing will only deliver to you the same results, only in a different system. Pageantry is about the art of transformation, and not just on the physical level, but on the emotional and spiritual level as well. Being honest with yourself is the first step into taking responsibility to perfect your little “imperfections.”

I always like to inspire my queens with exercises that assist them in searching all of their strengths and weaknesses, and this is one you can try on your own. Make a list of three strengths you have that you believe separate you from your competitors, and this is something that you should not have to ask a friend or relative to help you with. You should know enough about yourself to understand where your strengths lie so you can face any challenge in life. Next to your “strengths” list, I would like for you to make a “weaknesses” list and you are only allowed to list three. It is amazing to me that we can struggle to find strengths within ourselves yet have a list of 25 weaknesses!

On your weakness list, I would like you to list them in the order of the most crucial weakness. Usually they will be the first listed, but if you second-guessed yourself, then write them in order of biggest weakness to smallest. Now look at your weakness and ask yourself if this is something that you can correct before your next pageant? It usually is, because aside from having two heads, most of your weaknesses can be refined. Now take a completely different piece of paper and write down 10 actions that you need to take to refine or correct this weakness. I would like you to do this under all three weaknesses and you will develop a plan to specifically strengthen your weaknesses. I would also like for you to add 10 actions on your list that you can perform to make improve your strengths!

I believe in writing your plan down on paper because suddenly your goal have a specific purpose and you won’t feel so overwhelmed when attempting to find the remedy. By doing this you will be able to tackle your next competition with a deliberate plan that will help you to achieve your best results. Releasing limiting thoughts to become the "Complete Package"

As a former competitor and now a pageant coach, I am continually asked what it takes to be a pageant winner and my answer always remains the same... you have to be the "complete package." As a competitor in any system, you have an obligation to yourself to prepare fully for your pageant and not just in the areas of competition where you are the most comfortable. Pageantry is a "me, myself, and I" sport and ultimately the competitor who is most polished in all areas of competition is generally the one who will walk away from the pageant with the crown, banner, and title. When you are researching pageants, I urge you to take a look at the judging criteria for that particular system and stregnthen your competitive skills to match all of these categories. One of the most interesting similarities I find in pageantry is a competitor who focuses her attention on one or two areas of competition and asks me in the same breath why I feel she did not win her pageant.

I coach my queens to be the complete package so there is minimal room for her to not walk away with the title. The best gift you can provide yourself with as a competitor in any arena, is to get comfortable being uncomfortable. Since we are all creatures of habit, I believe it is human nature to stay in our comfort zone, so if for instance, a competitor is strong in physical fitness she tends to focus most of her energy on the fitness portion of the competition. This will oftentimes provide her recognition in that category, but not walk away with the crown. If a competitor is strong in judges interview, then she will focus primarily on judges interview and expect this category of competition to win her the title. Unless the pageant is specifically looking for 70% interview, or 70% fitness, then it is your responsibility to perfect all of your competition skills. The most effective way to do this is to be strategic on all areas of competition and leave nothing to chance! Ask any of my queens and they will tell you that my philosophy for pageant coaching is to control every detail we can prepare for, then leave the rest to God. You do however, have to perfect everything you are being judged on or you will find yourself being successful in only one area of competition.

Yes, if you have an amazing swimsuit figure, then the judges will notice your beauty and if you are strong in interview, they will notice you throughout the competition as well - but strength in only one area won't win you the competition. Pageantry is a fiercely competitive sport, and the likelihood of your competitor standing next to you being as strong in your areas of competition are very high, so you need to challenge yourself to step outside of your comfort zone, and take yourself to the next level of competing. Only then will you discover that you have progressed to your highest level as a competitor, and this will spread like wildfire throughout all areas of your life!

You all have the ability to release your limiting thoughts and take yourself your the highest level to accomplish anything that your heart desires! If you desire to win your state, national, or international pageant, then make the decision that you will do something different this time around, as this is what is needed to have a different outcome, and you will surprise even yourself! Keep reaching for your dreams and never allow anyone to tell you what you cannot do!!!

I just returned from Los Angeles, where I attend the Mrs., Miss, and Teen California International Pageants. It was wonderful getting to see such a beautiful pageant with so many talented and beautiful women on the stage! One of the highlights of my attending was getting to see Mrs. International 2007, Rebekah Negrete and my beautiful client, Mrs. International 2010, Shannon Devine! There is such a sincere "sisterhood" that is developed through pageantry, and I have been very blessed to have some wonderful sisters that I have gained not only as a competitor, but as a Pageant Coach.

Watching these beautiful competitors on stage reminds me how important it is to have dreams and be able to turn those dreams into tangible goals. I truly believe that the biggest barrier we have from turning a dream into a reality is in the mind. You have to believe that this is a tangible goal and be able to take measurable steps towards achieving that goal. In pageantry, I believe that so many contestants perceive their ultimate title as an intangible goal because we have a "fairy tale" image of what a queen represents. Part of my pageant coaching with my beautiful queens is to help them realize that they can take any dream and turn it into a reality once their mind comprehends that it is as attainable as any other goal they have reached throughout their lifetime. I believe that my selling an intangible product in the media for 16 1/2 years, helped me to realize that the mind has to grasp the idea of any dream into something achievable, and once the mind realizes what the heart already knows - then a competitor becomes unstoppable! She will work harder to prepare in all facets of competition rather than just the ones she feels she has strengths in.

As I work with my state delegates in preparing them for the first phase of their competition goals, I am reminded that so many of them prepared in one or two areas of competition rather than perfecting all areas of competition. Because their mind could not grasp the thought that they could win the title, they did not prepare accordingly to win the title - instead they prepared to win only one area of competition. I tell my queens daily that if they don't prepare to be the "complete package" then they will not win the pageant. You can prepare to win interview, but the contestant who had a winning interview, a strong stage presentation, and an overall image she developed will walk away with the title. When you are preparing for your next pageant - remember to ask yourself, what is my ultimate goal? At that point, prepare for your competition accordingly!

Overcoming the "Pageant Blues"

As the national pageants are coming to a close for 2010, I have been speaking to my queens all week about overcoming their disappointment of not achieving their dreams. As a former competitor, I know exactly how heartbreaking it feels to wake up the next morning after coronation and having to face the realization that despite months and even years of hard work and training - our pageant dream escaped us once again! I spent most of my week speaking to contestants who are experiencing this exact heartache and confusion. Thoughts of the pageant details being played out over and over again until they become emotionally exhausted, and wondering where exactly it was that they fell short on their goal. They felt "good" after interviews, had a killer swimsuit or fitness body, and their gown received compliments from everyone at the pageant. So....what happened?

As a pageant coach, when I train my queens I tell each one of them that it is a partnership and my job is to get them as far as I can prior to their pageant competition, and at that time they need to "let go and let God." In other words, cover every detail of the competition and leave absolutely nothing to chance, and when you arrive then do the best you can and the rest is in Gods hands. Sometimes you can do everything right and still not walk away with the title, because it just wasn't your time or there is something you didn't change that maybe would have taken you to the next level of competition. Whatever the reason may be for you not achieving your dream at that particular point doesn't mean that you are supposed to stop reaching for your goals. In every telephone conversation I have had with these titleholders, I have had to remind them that if they still have a passion for that particular pageant, then don't compromise your dream by settling for something less. Some of these queens have said to me, "maybe I am not meant to win, but enter a different system and just have fun." My immediate response to them is, "is that what you really want?" to which they have all replied, "no."

Part of any competition whether it be pageants, sports, politics, or competition in general you risk getting your heart broken. What separates the winners from those who don't achieve their dream is their ability to stand up again, brush the dirt from their knees, and keep running forward. There have only been two instances in my life where I almost quit pageantry. The first one was in 2000 when a "well-meaning" friend told me that I needed to quit pageants and get a real life. She said this to me verbatim! I went home devastated because I began to believe her, but something in my heart that evening told me that I couldn't quit - I needed to try on more time. Three months later, I won my first National Pageant. Had I listened to this woman instead of my inner-voice, I would have never known what could have been. The second time I almost quit pageantry was after the death of my mom from breast cancer in 2004. I had always wanted to compete in the Mrs. International Pageant before I ended my pageant career but was intimidated by the competition. Once again my inner voice called on me and I listened, and in July 2006 I was crowned Mrs. International. Had I not listened to my "calling" either times, I would have lost out on my dreams.

Whatever you do - please don't quit! If your heart still calls out to you to compete once again in a system that you truly believe in, then you owe it to yourself and to your dreams to just have faith and give it everything you have. Most importantly, don't settle for a different system because you think it might be "easier" or your heart won't break if you don't win that title. Reach for your dreams and have faith that your passion will take you to places and accomplishments that you cannot even imagine! Good luck and keep reaching for your pageant dreams!

In life we are often blessed with two sets of people, these individuals consist of our families and friends. However, there is a little known third set that I like to refer to as a “cookie person”. These are the individuals in life who metaphorically speaking give us “milk and cookies”, or more aptly put, the essential loving support we as humans need. Suzy Bootz is in every sense of the word my cookie person! Suzy focuses on the personal goals of each of her clients with specific attention to detail, while having a sharp eye for examining what is versus what could be.

While many of us as contestants focus on building physical strength, in hopes of a killer fitness score, Suzy’s philosophy is to build internal emotional strength. It is through this strength that I have come to identify my true purpose in life and have been blessed to express it through an outlet such as pageantry. Truly there aren’t enough words to describe Suzy Bootz as she is so much more than a coach. She is a mentor, sister, friend, teacher, and cheerleader. And long after the stage lights have turned off and the glitz and glamour have faded you can expect Suzy to be in the background waiting for you with nothing but love, support, and encouragement or as I often call it … milk and cookies.

Selecting Your Platform

As the 2011 state pageants are quickly approaching, I have been asked by many contestants as to how they should select their platform. Many contestants, such as myself, have had their platforms select them - but in the event that God has blessed you with many opportunities in which to spread your message, there are some important factors to consider...

Most importantly, your platform should represent you and what you believe in. Never select a platform because you feel it will assist you in winning the title or because it seems like the popular platform to choose. You need to do some soul searching because, as I tell my queen's, if you win your title you will be speaking on this issue for 365 days. It needs to be something that you are passionate about and that you can sit down and talk to a complete stranger about with the knowledge and conviction that you can help them in some manner. In other words.. come from a place of contribution. This is important with anything you do in life!

When I decided to compete for Mrs. International 2006, my biggest fear was that I would have to speak about something that nearly destroyed me which was the death of my mom from breast cancer. She fought a long and hard battle and still "lost" but I was determined that her death would not be in vain. Because of this, I had to muster the strength to look complete strangers in the eyes and educate them about the importance of breast cancer awareness and how to detect it early. I knew that this message would be the hardest thing I would ever do, so I spent my reign as Mrs. International 2006 using my pain, fear, and pride in my mom's battle to help me spread this message. The more I spoke about it, the easier it became - until I visited the cancer treatment centers and looked into the eyes of children, men and women fighting for their lives against the face of cancer. If you would have asked me in 2004 when my mom lost her battle if I would be speaking to people about this disease, I would have told you that you were crazy - there was no possible way I could speak about something so personal. In 2006, my platform pulled me out of my depression and took me on a journey that to this day is still having me speak to women about the importance of breast health and early detection.

My mom loved pageants and even competed in them herself. I think she would have been proud in the arena in which I chose to spread her message of hope. So, when you think about your platform now... ask yourself... "If I could change the world one person at a time, what would I do" and from there - your platform will choose you. The Positive Side of Mental Preparation!

In the two years that I have been blessed to be a Pageant Coach, I feel the most important thing I can teach my Queen's is to honor their instinct and their hearts. What does this mean? When I first do my consultations, I explain to them that they each need to focus on the positive energy and refrain from the negative energy. This negative energy can completely negate any of the positive we have been working on. I try to teach my Queens' the importance of gratitude and doing exercises first thing in the morning and last thing before you go to sleep. These exercises will help you focus on the wonderful things in your life to be grateful for; and gratitude breeds more things to be grateful for so the positive energy in your life expands - replacing the negative.

Every night before I go to sleep and every morning when I awake, I thank God for my blessings. I FEEL the gratitude while thanking for all the love, dreams, and miracles in my life. Every morning, before I even step out of my bed, again I begin my day with an attitude of gratitude and FEEL the love and energy before I step out of bed. I feel this helps bring more positive energy into my life, while I am truly giving thanks for all that I am feeling blessed for.

People laugh that I am too positive and don't pay much attention to the negative. As contestants, you need to focus on that which brings you joy and happiness because the pageant world can be filled with negative energy from individuals who have not yet learned to focus on the good in their life. Stay focused on your dreams and goals, and only associate with those who share your outlook in life. Refrain from any negative people, message boards, and organizations, and you will see your life transform to where you will find more and more things to be grateful for!

Keep reaching for your dreams and don't ever let anyone tell you what you cannot do! You are in control of your life and the only way someone can take a dream away from you is if you hand it to them. Cherish your dreams and if a group of judges say "no" to your dream, then find another group who will say "yes."

Now that I've returned from the Mrs. International Pageant and the last of my Queens have competed at Miss Teen USA and Mrs. United States, we've all come to the realization that the efforts and dreams of our souls have either been accomplished or will take another effort in achieving. Personally, I've felt the elation of coaching my second Mrs. International winner since being a pageant coach for the past two years, as well as experiencing second-hand the heartbreak of those whose who dreams didn't come into fruition. Throughout all of this, I can truly say that I am so proud and honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of each and everyone of your journey's. You listened to that "voice" in your heart that told you any dream is achievable and sometimes the journey takes us all in a new and different direction than we had initially expected. This doesn't mean that you won't get to achieve your dream, it only means that you were meant to touch and inspire more people throughout your journey. I truly believe that God places people and events into our lives to learn from or to teach, and in that moment when we have accomplished that mission, then the crown is placed on our heads so we can begin a new chapter of teaching and learning. To all of my beautiful and gracious queen's - I applaud you for you are all the reason that I love my job of being a pageant coach. I've been told by so many clients that they have learned so much from me, but I am the one who has learned from you all as well. Your beautiful smiles, laughter, tears, and faces of hope grace me everyday with the realization that we can achieve any dream we desire - you have all shown me that when I achieved my dream of becoming a pageant coach. I look forward to the next chapter of our journey together and in helping make your pageant dreams come true!

Women and girls of all ages have a tremendous opportunity in pageantry. The glitz and glamour is certainly exciting but the true reward from pageantry is the opportunity to discover the crown in your heart. We all have something beautiful to offer that is uniquely our own. Pageantry offers us the opportunity to reflect on what that unique beauty is and to celebrate it.

We hear all the time to “just be yourself” but that isn’t as easy as it sounds. It isn’t always easy to see that unique beauty in yourself or to not be afraid to express it when you do. Sometimes it takes that special someone to give you permission to see that in yourself and to help you feel safe expressing it…someone like Suzy Bootz.

Suzy’s outward beauty is undeniable but it is her spirit that I feel is what is most beautiful about her. She is so genuinely kind and sincere that you instantaneously feel at home with her. Suzy understands the fear that some of us have of the person we truly are and the hesitancy to readily admit the vulnerabilities that life experiences have created in us. She has the extraordinary ability through her coaching style to safely take you there, show you that each life experience is a jewel on the crown and help you find the courage to wear the crown in your heart proudly. Some of the nicest compliments I have received have been from my clients who tell me that I am more than just a pageant coach. They call me "life coach" and most importantly their friend. When I first began competing in pageantry, I set a goal for myself to achieve a state, national, and international title before I retired. This was a very aggressive goal, since I had neither the funds nor the knowledge of how I was going to achieve these goals. So I began recording every major state pageant I could get my hands on and began teaching myself the "art" of pageantry. I studied videos from California and Texas state pageants along with all of the major pageants that were televised, and as I applied the techniques the winners used to my own performance - I began to become more successful with every pageant I entered. Because interview was always my strongest area of competition, I began competing in pageants where interview was 50% of the scoring. I quickly learned that interview alone was not going to win me the title - I had to apply myself to learning ALL areas of competition and become the "complete package." When I finally accomplished this, I won my state title, then National title in 2000, and finally my International title in 2006!

Because I know how it feels to walk in a competitors shoes, I am able to allow my clients to see competition through my eyes and to teach them the "tricks of the trade" that separate competitors during pageantry. I always tell my clients to prepare for every detail of the competition they have control over, then leave the rest to God...and prepare the details is what we do! Because I work so closely with my clients, we are able to form a wonderful bond that allows them to trust my advice and expertise, and allows me to understand what they need from me in order to reach their potential. Because of this, during pageant week - I am at their disposal for telephone calls, texts, and any inspiration or focus they need from me. My goal is to help them achieve their goal - period! I fight for my clients dreams and take very seriously the role they entrust to me as their pageant and life coach and most importantly - their friend.

I just returned from the 2010 Mrs. International Pageant where I am so proud to say that another one of my clients was crowned Mrs. International 2010! In the short two years that I have had the honor of being the Official Coach for the International Pageants, I have been beyond blessed to work with some of the most amazing and accomplished women. I have truly found my "calling" through Pageant Coaching, and hope to continue being as blessed as I have been to be entrusted by contestants to help them make their pageant dreams a reality.

I had always wanted to be a coach, but it wasn't until 2009 that I finally got the guts to coach contestants and teach them the techniques that I had taught myself throughout my 25 years of pageantry. I studied the "art" of pageantry for so many years and applied everything I learned into techniques that not only helped me win my State, National, and International titles - but allowed me to teach others the same techniques. My role as a Pageant Coach is to do everything in my power to assist contestants in developing their skills so they can accomplish whatever their goals are - both inside as well as outside of pageantry. With every contestant I work with, I have the blessing of being touched by them as well.

Shannon Devine, Mrs. International 2010 was just one of the beautiful souls I got to coach and seeing the love she has for her family, her life, and her appreciation of everything around her, I believe ignites that "inner light" that radiates from within her.

Be True to Yourself...

When I coach all of my clients, one of the first pieces of advice I share with them is to be true to yourself. As a Pageant Coach, I am just one of many people offering my advice to contestants on a daily basis. One vital lesson I learned as a contestant is that you will receive advice from many people who truly have your best interest in mind; Directors, Photographers, Pageant Coaches, friends, and oftentimes many other contestants you will be competing against. The most important thing to do is to stay true to who you are and what you believe in. I have heard more and more from contestants in different systems that they were instructed to change their platform at the last minute because someone didn't feel it either suited the pageant or there were already too many contestants with the same platform as their own.

I believe this is not a piece of advice that you should listen to unless the advice instinctively feels right for you. Pageant platforms are designed to take a cause that a contestant is already promoting and help her take that passion to the next level. A contestant should not develop a platform because she wants to enter a pageant, rather she should enter a platform oriented pageant because she has a cause that she wants to promote with her title. If you are asked to change your passion/platform, it almost negates the work you have been focusing on and makes you question your beliefs and your cause. This is something I am discovering the more I speak to contestants. If you don't know how to promote your platform, then find a pageant coach who has the skills to develop what is important to you and shows you how to market your platform with or without the title.

Never sell yourself short when you compete in a pageant. Stay true to who you are and what you believe in and when the time is right, everything will fall into place for you and your efforts will be rewarded. Keep reaching for your pageant dreams!

Suzy Bootz Pageant Coach - Keys to winning the Judges Interview

As I prepare contestants for 5 national pageants next month, I have been inundated with questions from contestants in different systems regarding how to shine in their judges interview. I have been very blessed throughout my pageant career because the Judges Interview portion has always been my strength. In fact, I primarily competed in pageants that 50% of the scoring came down to the Judges Interview, because I knew it would carry me through the pageant to at least get me into the top 10. Having almost 17 years of Media Sales & Marketing, I learned very quickly how to sell myself in an interview and used the techniques I applied from my career into my pageant competitions. Selling an intangible product, I would joke that I sold “air” for a living, which I did. The only difference is that I learned how to sell an idea and a concept to complete strangers on a daily basis when I met with local, regional, and national buyers for very large company’s. This in turn, allowed me to sell myself in front of five complete strangers in a judges interview room in less than five minutes. Pageantry is no different…

The Judges Interview portion of your competition is no different than what I did everyday for 17 years. It is about selling a concept (your platform) and an idea (why you are the best representative that should win the title) to a group of strangers (your judges). This area of competition sets the tone for the remainder of the pageant, although winning the judges interview doesn’t necessarily guarantee you winning the pageant – it will get you noticed as a spokesperson and a contender for the title. It is up to you to polish all of your strengths so you can be the “complete package” the judges are looking for. In other words, focus on delivering a top-notch interview, develop your platform, and take your on-stage presentation to the highest level. The contestant who has succeeded in developing all areas of competition will more than likely be that contestant that walks away with the title – in any pageant! Pageant Tip -" The key to being a successful competitor is to compete against yourself. Understand that a pageant title does not define you - instead you define the title." A vital part of realizing your dream as a pageant competitor is to understand that you are not fitting into a certain mold to win your ultimate title. You must define yourself first. This month I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Cindy Cohen, Wilhelmina model and winner of TV Land's Season 2 of "She's Got the Look."

Cindy is the most beautiful woman both inside and out and she and her husband have an incredible talent for the camera. Not only was she the model, but Simon, her husband was the photographer. Appearing on the cover of the Supermodels Unlimited "Most Beautiful" issue!

I was selected to appear on the cover of the Supermodels Unlimited "Most Beautiful" Edition! The magazine was just released and I can't even begin to describe what an honor it was to be on the cover. Despite the fact I had flown to L.A. to shoot with photographer Rodney Young, it didn't begin to sink in until I got to see the magazine at the "Hollywood's 100 Most Beautiful" party that Jason and I attended this week in Hollywood. I remember reading this annual issue ever year, and I must admit I had dreamt of getting to be featured one day...but when you dream things like this... sometimes you don't actually think they will come true. Let this be a validation that no dream is ever too big or too small to achieve!
